Paneer Kalimirch
Paneer Kalimirch is a popular Indian dish made with paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cooked in a creamy and aromatic black pepper-infused gravy. It's known for its rich and spicy flavor, thanks to the use of black pepper (kalimirch) and other Indian spices.
It's a recipe of white gravy without red chilli and turmeric but tastes amazing! Less spices and good aromatic dish, the presence of kali miri on its own, in a subtle way.
It doesn’t overpower the gravy with its pungency. The slight hint of black pepper in every bite does the trick for your palate.
It can be served with roti, poori, paratha and rice too.

Ingredients:
250 grams of paneer (cottage cheese), cubed
2 tablespoons oil or ghee
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, pureed
1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon crushed black peppercorns (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
Salt to taste
Chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat.
Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears.
Add the tomato puree, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook this mixture until the oil starts to separate from the masala.
Add the crushed black peppercorns and mix well.
Now, gently stir in the paneer cubes and cook for a few minutes until the paneer absorbs the flavors of the masala.
Pour in the heavy cream and stir until well combined. Simmer for a few more minutes.
Sprinkle garam masala and mix it in.
Garnish with chopped cilantro and more crushed black pepper if desired.
Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.
Enjoy your homemade Paneer Kalimirch! Adjust the spiciness according to your preference by adding more or less black pepper.
Suggestion:
Ensure to use fresh full fat curd. Toned milk or skimmed milk curds can curdle in the gravy while cooking.
In case you feel the gravy has become too thick, add some water to get it to a consistency that is desired.
Add cream according to your taste. If you prefer, smooth gravy then you can.
Can add edible rose water if you prefer.
